Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
